Killed in Training

- SSgt Daly was killed during a HALO parachuting accident on Wednesday, 4 September 1996 at the Yuma Arizona Military Free Fall school.
- Brian was performing a day jump with a student.
- Stored in the right thigh pocket of his jumpsuit was a beacon held by a lanyard attached to a cotton eyelet just above the pocket.
- Brian and the student fell stable to 4000ft where the student was required to deploy his chute.
- The instructors continue another 1000 feet before opening their parachutes.
- Instructor cadre jump with a civilian rig that employs a drogue chute.
- Brian grabbed the drogue and deployed it.
- Looking back to clear the air pocket, Brian immediately realized his chute was tangled in the beacon lanyard.
- SSgt Daly cut away his main and deployed his reserve, which also got tangled up.
- He was later found still gripping the lanyard trying to break it free of his suit.
- Over his TACP career, SSgt Daly was assigned to support the 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment.
- Brian had a Terminal building dedicated to him on March 27th 1999.
- He was survived by Lauren Bosch (daughter), Pat (father) and Barbara (mother).
